Pere Lachaise Cemetery

My mission today was to finish the “Flower” series. I finished at 12:30 pm. I decided to go to see Jim Morrison’s grave. I took the Bus 69 to the cemetery. It was raining which I thought was fitting. When I got off at the entrance of the cemetery, the sun had returned. I walked thru the cobblestone, mausoleum  filled space where ravens crowed planting themselves on the finials of the monuments. I found the grave. It is squeezed in among other more prominent monuments. He was buried quickly without any family or friends. His parents learned of his death in the Washington Post.  The idea of celebrity, flowed thru my mind. I live in obscurity.

Picasso on my mind

La Dome Cafe

La Rotonde Cafe

It was a beautiful sunny day in Paris. I stayed in the studio until 5:30 pm. At sunset, I went to Montparnasse to see where Picasso had his studios in the early 20th century. I went to the cafe district just down the road and looked at the cafes where Picasso enjoyed his friend’s company. The area is filled with hotels and residences. The walks are wide. There isn’t much pedestrian traffic expect at the intersection where the cafes are located.

Immersion

I am losing track of the days. I just get up and work. I sit and sketch something and if I think it will work, I make things. About 5 pm, I went to the Lelong Gallery on 38 avenue Matignon and saw the work of Wang Yan Chang. I noticed that there were many more galleries along this posh thoroughfare. I also went by Gagosian and saw the work of Emily an Australian artist. I thought it was Thursday but it was Saturday.

Collage

I worked on ink drawings in the morning.  About 2 pm, I went to the Fondation Dubuffet. There was a poster show by Dubuffet. I saw many of his original renderings for his posters. In one of the halls was a large collage by him. It was inspiring to see since I was in the middle of working in collage. Next, I went to the bakery, vegetable stand and supermarket. Back in the studio, I finished my collage.

Nothing is Important

I spent the day in the Atelier. I have been waking each day with an idea and I pursue it. The phrase came to me “ Nothing is important”.  I immediately realized there were 18 letters that fit in a grid of three across and six down. I assembled the letters in the new order and created addition words and meanings. After I finished in the studio, I went  to Galerie Templon and saw the work of Anthony Caro. Next, I went by Clara Scremini Gallery and dropped off a flyer to Jacque Mallon, an artist I met inviting him to my open studio.

Repeat/Variation

It was another full day in the Atelier. After I was finished, I went  for an evening walk. I passed the fencing academy and watched for awhile. On the way back to the Atelier, I purchased a light bulb.
