Oklahoma City to Amarillo Texas

We set off from Tulsa and stopped in Oklahoma City. The City is new like so many of the cities we have seen on this trip. There is an electric street car and a Tesla Dealership. The Contemporary Art Center had works by contemporary artists from Mexico. The work was thought provoking and inspiring. Most of our ride was in the rain which hammered down hard, made visibility limited and gusts of wind made maneuvering difficult. The endless prairie was engulfed in gray and the great sky was invisible. We stopped briefly at a roadside attraction on Route 66. It was a spiffed up service station from the 1930s with all sorts of reproductions which looked like they were made in China. It was night by the time we got to Amarillo on route 40. The road was dark and the dividing lines were muddled in the wet asphalt and I drove slow. There is something spooking in this part of the world. You feel a little isolated. You don’t want to run out of gas cause you could stuck int the prairie miles from another human being.
