Traveling from Santa Fe, we looked forward to the tour of Georgia O’Keefe’s homes in Abiquiu and Ghost Ranch. Roads were closed and we made a detour. We got to the tour in time and was totally impressed and inspired by what we saw. Her homes, landscape and lifestyle was an immersion into the visual creative practice. She looked for shapes, contrasts and color in what was around her. The stones, the skulls, the architecture, mountains and sky all informed her artistic vocabulary. The colors found in the eroding striation of hills, mountains and cliffs gave her starting points. The vastness and solitude also was apparent in these beautiful havens in which she spent over 50 years.
