Abingdon
This morning we walked along Main Street in Abingdon. We visited Martha Washington Hotel once a residence in the 19th century, a girls school in the 1930s and now a hotel. It was a grand old hotel with lots of mahogany, fireplaces in use in every sitting room and library. The gardens were well tended and the maple trees were now in fall color. Across the street was the Barter Theatre one of the oldest regional theaters in the country. On the Wall of Fame was a picture of an actor who was a fellow classmate of mine at University. At the local art center was work by William Fields, a powerful self taught artist who died of COVID in 2021.
