The Day After

Henri Rousseau

Clotilde Jimenez

David Salle

Sonia Delaunay

I spent the day recovering from Open Studio. I went to the Avenue Matignon to see the galleries in the area. One thing I didn’t  expect was the galleries close for lunch between 12 -2 pm. But I had plenty to see and experience. I was by the Department of Defense and on the streets the police were armed with AK-47 rifles. Their presence was quite intimidating.  There were a few pieces that caught my eye in the many galleries I visited. I saw a Rousseau painted as a rough sketch. There was a David Salle that was very cartoony not like most of his work. One would have to think how this unfinished piece got out of his studio. Did he intend to leave this piece as is? I was introduced to the work of Clotilde Jimenez. I stopped in a tapestry store of 20th contemporary artists and stumbled across a small gouache and pencil piece by Sonia Delaunay. It was nice to connect to some of the artists at the Cite last night. At the grocery  store, I ran into an artist from Germany I met at my Open Studio and we shared a conversation on the way back to the Cite.
